3.0L LM2 Duramax TurboDiesel Specifications & Information
Specifications on GM’s new 3.0L Inline-Six LM2 Duramax Available on 2020+ Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500 Trucks
Although GM was the first to offer a diesel in the mid-size truck market found in the Duramax Colorado or Canyon, they are the last to adopt a half-ton diesel. GM will be releasing their first diesel variant of the 1/2 ton trucks, in the form of a 3.0L Inline-six LM2 Duramax engine. Unlike Ford’s 3.0L V6 Powerstroke or FCA’s 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel, the Duramax will feature an inline-six cylinder design. The I-6 3.0L Duramax produces 277 horsepower and 460 lb/ft of torque. Despite these pretty impressive numbers, achieving higher horsepower wasn’t GM’s goal for the new 3.0L Diesel, fuel economy was. According to EPA estimates, 2wd trucks equipped with the 3.0L Duramax can get up to 33 miles per gallon on the highway. That’s a significant improvement over their gasoline powered counterparts. While the 3.0L Duramax does provide higher estimated fuel ratings than the 3rd generation EcoDiesel or the 3.0L Powerstroke F150, it offers less tow capacity. Max tow capacity for the 2020 Silverado 1500 or 2020 Sierra 1500 is 9,300 lbs. Tow capacity will vary according to your trucks specifications, so it’s important to consult your owners manual or GM directly to get your exact max tow capacity.
