2021 Ford F-150 Owner’s Manual Makes A Positive Environmental Impact

How Ford is Making the F-150 More Eco-Friendly

The 2021 Ford F-150 is more environmentally friendly than ever before. Not only did Ford invest and produce a hybrid power train, the 3.5L PowerBoost, but they’re also making a difference by making the 2021 F-150 owner’s manual digital. Ford claims the change to making the owner’s manual digital results in a reduction of paper use by up to 290 tons of paper every year. Here are some interesting stats on how significant a reduction of 290 tons of paper per year truly is.

290 Tons Of Paper Equates To:

  • The weight of 122 average Ford F-150 trucks
  • A stack of paper 18,000 feet tall.

How to Access It

The 2021 Ford F-150’s owner manual will be accessible via the center touchscreen display found on all models. It will have a search function capability and you’ll have access to streamed videos and other content. For those of us that are technology inclined, finding information on your F-150 has never been easier. All the information on the new 2021 F-150 is at your fingertips.

Why We Like The 2021 Ford F-150 Digital Owner’s Manual

Good For The Environment

It goes without saying that most people consider any effort to be more environmentally conscious is a good thing. I love that Ford is making an effort to make a positive environmental impact on the planet. A lot of consumers also trend that way, as many climate activists consider climate change to be public enemy number one. Even myself as someone who is traditionally very conservative can see the value in protecting our great planet. As someone who enjoys the outdoors, I firmly believe we should do everything we can to make sure future generations can enjoy our planet as much as we have.

Good For Secondary Owners

If you’ve ever purchased a used truck, your vehicle probably doesn’t have an owner’s manual inside. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had purchased a truck that lacked an owner’s manual and all the crucial information that is found inside. I’ve even lost Owner’s Manuals on trucks I purchased new. This new digital format will make sure you always have access, even if you’re the second or third owner, and that you will never lose it.

Find What You Need Faster

Another huge plus is that the digital owner’s manual has a search capability that can drastically reduce your time searching for something specific. Instead of skimming pages, or trying to use the glossary or index, you can simply search the topic you’re looking for.

What We Don’t Like

Functionality

An owner’s manual on any vehicle provides crucial information. It includes proper procedures on a variety of service tasks, maintenance information, and even how to use different vehicle features. I haven’t seen the display in person yet, but I do have some usability concerns. Now, let’s say you’re using the owner’s manual Function on the display to learn how to change settings on the display. You can’t do it simultaneously, so you will have to either have a good memory and remember the steps to take, or look up the owner’s manual on your phone from Ford’s website to change settings as you read the directions.

Difficult For Less Tech-Savvy Owners

Anything digital can also be a problem for some of the old timers out there who didn’t grow up with technology like we have. Again, I haven’t seen the new 2021 Ford F-150 in person yet,  but if it isn’t easily accessible or easy to find on the interphase, it could be problematic for older people. I also hope the manual itself is easy to navigate and topics can be found quickly. Let’s hope Ford is making it as easy as flipping through a book. There will be a condensed supplemental version of the owner’s manual that will be present on all models however. It’ll contain about 25% of the original manual’s content, but it will contain vital information like how to properly jumpstart the vehicle in the event that the vehicle is dead or unusable.

2021 Ford F-150 3.0L Powerstroke Specs Revealed

Details about the new 2021 Ford F-150 are here. An all-new engine, the 3.5L V-6 Hybrid PowerBoost, joins Ford’s existing 2.7L EcoBoost, 3.5L EcoBoost, 5.0L V8, and the 3.0L Powerstroke diesel. A new body style accompanies these engines along with new technology that makes the F-150 one of the most impressive job-site ready trucks we’ve ever seen. It can also tow up to 14,000 pounds, an 800 pound improvement over the highest rated 2020 model. Max payload is also increased to a whopping 3,325 pounds. While Ford made big improvements to the lineup as a whole, the 2021 F-150 3.0L Powerstroke engine remains largely unchanged. Despite no changes being made, the 3.0L Powerstroke is still a very viable option and should be considered over other trucks for people who tow frequently.

2021 Ford F-150 3.0L Powerstroke Performance

3.0L Powerstroke Diesel Engine

The new 2021 F-150 with the 3.0L Powerstroke engine offers owners 250 horsepower at 3,250 rpm and 440 ft-lb of torque at 1,750 rpm. A max payload of 1,840 is available on Supercab models, while the Supercrew has a max payload of 1,805 lbs. Max tow capacity is 12,100 pounds when equipped with the max tow package. While the 2021 3.0L Powerstroke doesn’t make the highest numbers in the F-150 lineup, we still prefer its durability and ability to tow compared to other models.

How does the 3.0l Powerstroke Compare to Other Gas-Powered Models?

The 3.0L Powerstroke was the fuel economy champion ford Ford’s 2020 F-150 lineup. With the new 3.5L Powerboost engine however, the 3.0L Powerstroke may have to remove its crown and hand it over. The 3.5L PowerBoost engine’s fuel economy isn’t available yet, but Ford has mentioned that it will be able to get at least 700 miles out of a single tank. Now, fuel economy estimates never take towing into consideration. The major draw of the 3.0L Powerstroke engine is that it’s a diesel, and diesel trucks get significantly better fuel economy while towing.

While the 3.0L Powerstroke may have lower torque than both the 3.5l PowerBoost and the 3.5L EcoBoost engines, it reaches max torque significantly faster. The 3.0L Powerstroke reaches peak torque at only 1,750 rpm while both the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost and Powerboost reach peak torque at 3,000 rpm. Hybrid engines are relatively new to trucks. We are very interested in seeing how the hybrid motor impacts towing. For now, we still like the F-150 with the 3.0L Powerstroke if you’re going to be frequently towing.

2021 Ford F-150 Technology

The 2021 Ford F-150’s new technology is helpful on both the luxury and functionality fronts. Pro Power Onboard makes the F-150 a portable generator capable of powering a job site for an entire day. It has 120V and 240V power sources, easily accessible in the bed to plug in power tools. It’s a perfect partner to the tailgate work surface that offers a mobile workbench. The truck’s interior also has an available work surface option. It converts the center console to a flat surface, perfect for working on a laptop.

The F-150’s Trailer Reverse Guidance and Pro Backup Assist features make backing up a trailer a breeze. Trailer Reverse Guidance uses the F-150’s high-resolution cameras to provide multiple views as well as guidance on how to turn the wheel when backing up a trailer. When set up, the Pro backup assist makes backing up a trailer as easy as turning a dial.

A bigger center digital display is standard on all trims. XL and low XLT trims receive an 8″ touch screen, while upper XLT trims and above receive a new 12″ screen. The gauge cluster is brand new, with more luxurious models receiving a “smart” 15″ digital gauge cluster. Rear view cameras are also standard on all trims. For extra comfort, a max-recline feature is available on King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited Trims allowing the front seats to recline nearly 180 degrees.

2021 F-150 Availability

Ford anticipates the new 2021 F-150 will be available at dealerships this fall. Hopefully we don’t have any additional CoronaVirus complications so we can see these new trucks sooner than later.

2020 Ford Superduty With 6.7L Powerstroke Dethrones Ram HD

Ram made headlines when they released their 2019 Ram HD, capable of producing 1,000 ft/lb of torque with the Cummins/Aisin powertrain combination. Ford didn’t stay idle for long. The new 2020 Superduty with the revised 6.7L Powerstroke engine will offer Ford customers 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. The most exciting part? These numbers apply to every 2020 Superduty with the 6.7L Powerstroke, not just the F-350 or F-450 Dually.

Superior Towing

Horsepower and torque are a pretty number, but how about tow capacity? The 2020 Superduty equipped with the 6.7L Powerstroke will also feature best in class tow capacity at 37,000 lbs. That is a little higher than the 2020 Ram HD at 35,100 lbs or GM’s 2020 Silverado HD at 35,500 lbs. Obviously, tow capacity is not standard across the board. 2020 Ford F-Series Superduty trucks will also boast best in class conventional tow capacity of 24,200 lbs.

Offroad Improvements

Ford also took a significant step to appease Powerstroke owners who want better off-road performance. 2020 Superduty trucks featuring the Tremor Off-road package offer customers 35″ all-terrain tires and a 2 inch front lift from the factory. You can find out the other improvements the Tremor Off-road package offers by clicking here.

Other 2020 Ford Superduty Improvements

Other 2020 Superduty changes include a new 10-speed TorqShift transmission, Pro Trailer backup assist, and trailer reverse guidance. Many features that are considered premium, like lane keeping assist, pre-collision assist with emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring will be standard on XLT trims and above. This gives customers buying lower trims access to better features and more value. Overall, Ford made their trucks safer, more powerful, and more off-road capable than they have ever been before. Be on the lookout for the new 2020 Superduty. They will be hitting dealerships by the end of this year!

Ford Introduces New Tremor Off-Road Package Available on 2020 Powerstroke Trucks

Ford’s Most Off-Road Capable Powerstroke To Date!

New 2020 Ford SuperDuty with the Tremor Off-Road Package

Ford just announced a new off-road package available for the 2020 SuperDuty trucks! Unlike Ram’s Power Wagon which is only available with the 6.4L Hemi engine, Ford’s Tremor Off-Road package is available on trucks with the 6.7L Powerstroke diesel engine. The Tremor package is also available on Superduty trucks with the new 7.3L gas V8 engine.

What inspired this new off-road package? Ford claims that modern truck owners use their trucks for more than just work. People use trucks for work during the week. On weekends they take the family boat to the lake or go camping. The Tremor Off-Road Package lets Ford truck owners use their trucks for both work and play without compromising payload or tow capacity. Unlike some available truck packages, the Tremor package features numerous upgrades that make Tremor-equipped Superduty trucks very different from standard models.

What Trucks will feature the Tremor Off-Road Package?

Ford F-250 and F-350 Superduty trucks featuring the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims can contain the Tremor package. Only single rear wheel configurations, even in F-350 models, will be available. A 6.75 foot bed is standard for all trucks with the Tremor Off-Road package.

What Off-Road Upgrades Does The Tremor Package Contain?

Ford trucks with the Tremor Off-Road package will feature 35 inch all-terrain GoodYear Wrangler DuraTracs from the factory! This is the biggest tire size ever placed on a stock truck from any manufacturer. These tires are wrapped around 18″ matte-black wheels. Trucks will also feature a 2″ lift in the front. Overall, these upgrades give this version of the Superduty 10.8 inches of ground clearance and best-in-class water ford of 33 inches. Approach angles of 31.65 degrees and departure angles of 24.51 degrees are the best ever found on a SuperDuty.

The Tremor Off-Road package also features unique progressive-rate leaf springs that make driving over rough terrain more comfortable without sacrificing towing capabilities. These new springs work with huge, new shocks custom-tuned for the best on-road and off-road performance. These shocks carry substantial amounts of oil to keep internal temperatures low.

35" GoodYear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires and matte-black 18" wheels are standard on 2020 SuperDuty trucks equipped with the Tremor Off-Road Package.

Other Tremor Off-Road Package Features

Other features of this off-road package include an electronically controlled, locking rear differential and a new Dana limited-slip front differential. This front differential uses the trucks’ brakes to send power to the wheels when a tire has lost traction in certain drive modes. 2020 SuperDuty trucks with the Tremor package will be available with six different drive modes. Drivers can select normal, eco, tow/haul, slippery, or deep/snow modes. A sixth, rock-crawl mode is also available. Trail Control, a feature on the Raptor and Ranger trucks will also be available on this version of the SuperDuty. Off-road running boards and skid plates are also standard, to help protect these trucks.

Ford Introduces New 2020 Super Duty

Ford just released the first details on their new 2020 Super Duty trucks coming out this Fall. Major performance changes include two new available engines, a new transmission, and chassis upgrades. Because of these changes, Ford managed to post increases in both towing and payload ratings! In fact, Ford is labeling the 2020 Super Duty as their most powerful and capable heavy duty truck to date. New interior and exterior designs, along with new smart trailer technology will also be added. Here is what we know so far.

2020 Super Duty Performance

Two New Engines

Ford’s 2020 Super Duty will have two new engine offerings in addition to their existing 6.2L Gas V8. First, a new 7.3L Gasoline powered V8 engine will be available on the new Super Duty. Ford believes this engine will be the most powerful Gas V8 engine in its class. A new third generation 6.7L Powerstroke V8 diesel engine will also be available. The new Powerstroke engine will utilize a new 36,000 PSI fuel injection system, new injectors, and a redesigned variable-geometry (VGT) turbocharger to achieve higher horsepower and torque numbers. How much higher? That information isn’t available yet, but as soon as we have more details, we’ll be sure to share!

The new 6.7L Powerstroke will receive critical structural improvements to the cylinder head, block, connecting rods, and bearings to achieve higher output and cylinder pressure. Steel Pistons were also added, resulting in higher firing pressure capability and less friction.

New TorqShift 10-Speed Transmission

The 2020 Super Duty will receive a new 10-Speed TorqShift transmission this Fall. All 2020 Super Duty trucks, not just the diesel, will be available with the new TorqShift. This new transmission features a much wider gear ratio range than the previous 6-Speed, to handle the most difficult towing tasks. Class-exclusive live-drive PTO (Power Take Off) will still be available. The Live-Drive PTO option allows customers to power accessory industrial equipment or accessories with the truck in motion. New drive modes like eco, slippery, ,deep sand and snow are now available. Ford managed to accomplish all this while utilizing the same space and only adding 3.5 pounds to the new TorqShift!

Refined Interior

Numerous interior changes were made to higher trim packages. Updated decorative appliqués were used on doors and the media bin door of Lariat trucks. Platinum Super Duties added Onyx Argento wood. Interiors of 2020 Limited trim trucks received an overhaul. Ebony and Highland Tan colors grace their new interiors. Genuine leather, ash wood, and brushed aluminum adorn the trim. The leather-wrapped instrument panel topper, door armrests, seating, and console lids all received decorative stitching. Floor mats now feature an embroidered Super Duty logo. Miko suede is even used as a headliner for Limited trucks too.

Exterior Updates

Ford’s 2020 Super Duty didn’t receive a full body-style redesign like GM or Ram. Instead, they opted to make subtle changes to optimize performance. A new front-end improves cooling and lighting performance. A new high-airflow grille on all Dually trucks increases powertrain cooling capacity. This is accompanied with a new bumper and air dam for further improvements in air induction and cooling capacity. New LED headlights give the 2020 Super Duty a new look too. Higher trims feature headlights that maintain continuous accent lighting. New tail lights, rear bumpers, and tailgates bring style to the rear end of the new Super Duty trucks too.

Technology

Every diesel truck manufacturer has added significant trailering technology to their 2020 model trucks so far. Therefore, Ford had to make some pretty big strides in towing technology too. As a result, they will be introducing a new Pro Trailer Backup Assist to their 2020 Super Duty. Drivers will be able to use the Pro Trailer Backup Assist knob to steer the truck using the rear camera. With this feature, Ford hopes to make it much easier to navigate tight spaces. This is made possible by the trucks’ Trailer Reverse Guidance System that shows trailer angle and direction. Then, it provides steering advice to easily back-up your trailer. In addition, the Pro Trailer Assist feature can be used in conjunction with all trailers, even fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailers.

Ford is adding FordPass Connect on every new 2020 Super Duty too. As a result, Super Duty owners will have connectivity no matter where they are, with Wi-Fi access for up to ten devices. New Safety features are also standard on XLT and higher trims, including lane-keeping alerts, Pre-Collision Assist, and a blind spot monitoring system with trailer coverage will be available. Wireless charging and USB-C ports will also be added to Super Duty trucks.
