What Changes Resulted in the Most Efficient EcoDiesel to Date
The new 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel had to change significantly to achieve high fuel economy numbers. A new water-cooled Variable Geometry Turbocharger was introduced. This gives the trucks better throttle response while also being more efficient. Intake ports were overhauled to improve performance. New fuel injectors were added, along with new pistons to also improve fuel economy. Even a new brake system featuring low-friction blades helps contribute to fuel economy.
EcoDiesel Emissions Updates
Ram also made big changes on emission systems. A new dual high/low pressure exhaust gas recirculation is used. Compression ratio was also changed to 16.0:1 from 16.5:1 to further reduce exhaust emissions. The SCR, or selective catalytic reduction system, was enlarged by 50% and includes a new Diesel Oxidation Catalyst with DEF injection.
