If you want your Nissan TITAN XD with the 5.0L Cummins Diesel engine to last a long time, you should become very familiar with the proper maintenance procedures that these trucks require. You could leave your truck in the hands of your local diesel shop or Nissan dealership, but it’ll cost you more money in the long run. Instead, you should learn how to maintain your Nissan Titan XD diesel on your own. The 5.0L Cummins Engine isn’t difficult to maintain as long you know the proper service intervals, fluid capacities, and you know which oil, fluids, and filters to use. To help our readers that own these trucks, we decided to create our comprehensive 2016-2019 Nissan TITAN XD 5.0L Cummins Maintenance Guide. In it, we cover all of this crucial information, and even include links to buy all of the 5.0L Cummins filters, fluids, and oil that you need.

Nissan Titan XD Diesel Maintenance
This Post will serve as our guide to maintaining 2016-2019 Nissan Titan XD pickup trucks with the 5.0L Cummins Engine. We’ll cover 5.0L Cummins service schedules, required maintenance tasks, and we even include a list of required Maintenance parts and where to buy them.

5.0L Cummins Service Schedule

If you are going to service your Nissan Titan XD yourself, or even if you are bringing it into the dealer for service, the first thing you need to be aware of is the Cummins 5.0L Maintenance Schedule. Also called a service schedule, this tells you when it is time to complete different service tasks on your truck. There are two separate service schedules, one for normal operating conditions and one for severe operating conditions. I’ll give you a brief description of each but a general rule to follow is if you use your truck as mostly just a daily driver, with brief towing on the weekends, just use the normal operating conditions service schedule. If your truck is used for work, or as part of a fleet, use the severe operating conditions schedule.

Normal Operating Conditions

Normal Operating Conditions is what most truck owners fall under. This means you use your truck as your daily driver and only tow lighter loads. You also don’t use your truck off-road.

* No Specified service intervals are given for the transfer case. If you submerge the transfer case, replace fluid as soon as possible. We recommend servicing at least every 50-60k miles, if not sooner for normal operating conditions. ** No service intervals are given for the front or rear differentials either. If either the front or rear axles are submerged, change fluid immediately. We recommend replacing the fluid at least every 50-60k miles anyways. Under severe driving conditions or if towing, change every 20,000 miles.

Severe Operating Conditions

If your truck is a commercial vehicle, or is used as part of a fleet, you fall under this category. Other times when you need to follow the severe operating conditions service schedule is if you idle frequently, live in a big city where you frequently drive in heavy traffic, or if you use your vehicle off-road. Frequent towing or towing heavy loads also calls for following the severe service schedule. Notice in the chart below, this calls for more frequent service of your Nissan Titan XD.
